why?!?!?! Why you no sleep through the night anymore? It was going so well until a few days ago. Now Ashley wakes ip at 1:30am every night and then is waking up constantly after that until morning. Ugh! This might be the end of breast feeding since it seems like the root cause may be that Ashley is not getting enough from the boob feedings. That seems to be the big problem with breast feeding in general, since you don’t know how much the baby actually gets. We have started rice cereal, once a day, and have added it to her last feeding of the night. It’s the only thing really that has changed, but should be adding more calories so she should sleep longer. I really think its the breast feeding is failing to provide enough, so she is short of nutrition at the end of the day. Also the fact that she really doesn’t seem to be gaining weight at the appropriate rate seems to support my theory.

Your past opines lead me to believe that you are a progressive dad concerned with the health and development of your daughter. Perhaps you could consider an alternative food to start her on, like meat (liver) or avocado instead of rice.

Progressively getting loopier, yes. Actually the meat and avocado made me laugh, because it just sounds funny. But your right, I think we will consider this. Partly because of the weight gain issue, but also because of my lack of love for the health effects of simple carbs (read as sugar), which are basically what the rice cereal and formulas are. Some good fats sound interesting to me. Liver I am not sure about and would need to research, but avocado is pretty much the best fat/nutrition ratio there is. Both are able to be mushed up for easy feeding.
We have a dr appt next week, so I will broach the subject, i’m sure to a negative/ignorant response, but still i need to ask the pro first to see what the reaction is.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Does your baby NAP during the day? I ask because my baby was born Aug 18 and I cannot get her to nap any more than a 15 minute catnap here or there. It would be really nice if I could get her on some sort of predictable schedule (:-)HA!) Maybe that is unrealistic…

Ah yes, this has been a problem with her for a while. I think we have have had a few things going on with her for a while, and maybe you are just now starting to experience it, or something similar.
It might be that your baby is starting to develop enough pain from something to cause sleep problems, or is causing reduced eating which causes discomfort cutting naps short. I am guessing your baby started teething, in which case it seems a lot of babies start being a bit food phobic because their mouth hurts.
This seems to be starting with Ashley. If you have noticed a drop in amount of food being eating per feeding, then it could be whats causing the short naps.
Overall though, I think it is probably just how it is unfortunately. Babies are freakin crazy if you ask me. It would seem you and I are in the same club of No-Pattern-Baby-Syndrome.
If your baby is sleeping through the night… I’ll trade you… If not, I feel your pain. From what I have read though, this lack of pattern is normal. And that some weeks you will have a sleepy baby and other weeks, no so much.
One thing to do, if it is getting to you, is not to be afraid to let your baby “just chill”. We are finding that Ashley will just hang out by herself for a very long time sometimes, giving you a chance to get stuff done or take a break. We put her on her playmat with a bazillion toys around her and hanging over her. We of course have used the TV-zombie-box. Even just laying her in the floor in the office so she can watch us do stuff works sometimes.
Hope that helps?
