Daughter of The Smartest Human Alive

So it seems that she just goes into these so-called “feeding frenzies”. So far the record eating for 1 single session has been well over 4 ounces. Both boobs for a good amount of time, then 2 ounces, wait, no-joy, 2 more, ah…. sleepy. If you put 4 ounces in a glass and look at it, you will be very confused as to how that can actually fit into a baby that is only 8 pounds. I gotta tell you, she is freaking Houdini or has a magic multidimensional stomach or something. Frankly it doesn’t add up for me. The volume of food is this big: |……….| but the volume of baby innards is this big: |….|
Please explain the magic of baby physics to me.

followup: Ashley has been up for over 6 hours.

Um, what? Aren’t baby’s supposed to sleep a lot? We are thinking its gas, but cant seem to figure out what to do about it. There is Mylicon, but being that I am against using drugs for every little issue that ever comes up in life, I am hesitant. Right now, mom is pacifying Ashley by breast feeding, but thats not fair to mom. Also I don’t think its that Ashley is hungry, though she does seem to have feeding binges in the evening. I know some folks will say, “oh its colic.” You know what? I HATE that word. It’s a BS name from something that doctors haven’t been able to figure out. It’s like anything that ends in ‘itis. “Itis” means inflammation or something like that, so bronch-itis = inflammation of the bronchial passage, arthr-itis = inflammation of the joints or cartilage. It’s a lame duck name for “who the hell knows?”

We have the mylicon, but we have also read about something called Gripe Water. Though from reading up on it, it has alcohol in it, aside from the other supposed effective ingredients. Personally, i think you give alcohol to a baby and think that its not the thing doing all the work to calm your baby down, you are retarded. Aside from you being a dumb bad parent for doing that in the first place. Though I am interested in finding a version of it that has no alcohol, at least to try it out.

This obviously isn’t Ashley, but this is a preview of what we probably have to look forward to in 3 years. Very funny, Kids say the darndest things (TM).

Well, not really. She is however swatting at the bug thingy hanging in her co-sleeper. We are sitting out in the living room, watching the tube, catching up on work and such on our laptops, and Ashley is in her bed wide awake. She is not crying, which is a change of pace… However, she is firmly fixated on a hanging toy, and keeps swatting at it. It seems vary directed, though she has horrible muscle control, her movements really do suggest a purpose to her movements. Pretty cool. Could just be wishful thinking, but it really seems like thats what she’s doing.

The late night / early morning feedings at least had 1 positive. I got to see the lunar eclipse, though frankly I was tired enough to not really care too much. I peeked my head out the sliding door and took a look. Nice deep red, but only looked for a few seconds then moved back to the task at hand, a diaper change.

Ok babies poop, sure. But what is with pooping just enough to warrant a diaper change, and waiting until everything is cleaned up, start feeding her, and literally 2 mouthfuls into it, POOOOOOP!! Fer crissake… Every time. It’s not like diapers are cheep, but having to change them twice everytime is getting old fast.

She has some serious muscles, as can be attested to by the nurse that took her blood for the bilirubin test. But the real sign is that she is lifting her head, and holding it up, 90 degrees, for a very long time. She was just now being rocked/bounced, and held her head up for a few minutes looking around. What is that about? Guess that vitamin regimen worked. From what I have read, 90degree lifting should only happen in the 3rd month.
